Thanksgiving 2009

Yeah!!! Bobby's coming for Thanksgiving and bringing his girlfriend, Caroline. We've never met her. He say's she's the sweetest person he's ever met. He say's everyone loves her. I say "if you love her, I'm sure we'll love her". Bobby's 38 years old. He has been married and divorced twice. We always try to minimize the first marriage because it seems it happened on a whim and it also seemed it was over before it began even though it took awhile for things to be final. That's my perspective. I could be wrong. He was living in San Diego when the marriage ended and his addiction to alcohol escalated. He ended up in treatment. We went for the family session. A most agonizing time. Bobby came out stronger and ready to move on. He wanted to work in recovery. He's like that. Wants to help others. He moved back to Arizona. After graduating high school he had gone to Embry Riddle in Prescott. He loved the area so that's where he went. He started seeing an old acquaintance, Jarnli. He also started searching (so it seemed to me) for a solid relationship with God. As he and Jarnli became closer so did his relationship with his Creator. They were married at our home on a hot October day. I believed it was a "till death do us part" marriage. I think they did too. It was hard. Jarnli had been married before too and had a son. They didn't always agree. Life is so interesting. I was an "unwed" mother when I met David. Bobby was almost 2 years old. We married and David adopted Bobby. We didn't always agree. They're marriage ended. Jarnli and Alex were family one moment and out of my life the next. Divorce is painful. Bobby ended up back in California. Now he's bringing home his girlfriend. We want to meet her. I remember my grandma telling me about all the loves of my Uncle Bud's life. Uncle Bud was a wild one and had several girlfriends/wives. My grandma loved them all. I want to be like my grandma in that way. I also want Bobby to have one true love that he will spend the rest of his life with. I like that. I think he would like that.
Thanksgiving visit was nice. Of course we like Caroline. She is sweet and sensitive. Maybe we aren't sensitive enough.
Bobby is complaining of a headache that won't go away. We offer frozen peas. He's never had headaches. The frozen peas don't help. His lymph node is still troubling him too. He goes back to California. Back to the doctor. We wait to hear.

August 2009

Sometime in August of 2009

Bobby said his right lymph node was swelling. He was going to see the doctor. He didn't sound worried. I wasn't worried. I almost forgot to ask him what the doctor said the next time I talked to him. Doctor wasn't concerned. Was Bobby concerned? Hard to tell. I was excited because he was coming for a visit. He lives in California. We live in Idaho. He came in September. He looked great, he looked healthy. We went on a hike in the Owyhees. Planning to do a Grand Canyon hike maybe next year. We've been saying that for awhile. Bobby is a wilderness guide. He LOVES the Grand Canyon. He says it sets his soul on fire. When he was little he spent hours in the desert near our home collecting bones and rocks and the occasional tick. Before he knew how to tell time we'd put a watch on him and show him where the big hand and the little hand would be when it was time for him to come home. He had no fear and neither did we. This started when he was 4 years old. What were we thinking!!!!
He says he might come home for Thanksgiving. I hope so.
